Priority Fees

Solana’s base transaction fees are usually low. During congestion, a transaction without a priority fee may be delayed or dropped. A priority fee is an extra amount attached to the transaction to improve its chance of being processed quickly.

Many wallets and dApps set a priority fee automatically. Some let you adjust it. Pay more when timing matters, such as during a busy launch. Pay less when the network is quiet and speed is not important.

This matters most for time-sensitive actions like liquidation-avoidance transactions or trades during high volatility — see our lending risk and liquidation guide for why transaction timing can matter in those situations.
