Hyperliquid is the largest perpetuals exchange tracked across any chain; edgeX is a fast, StarkEx-based perps exchange with a live token and broad multichain deposit support. Both are post-TGE, established venues — this comparison is about which trading experience fits you, not which one still has a farming window (neither does).
Scale: Hyperliquid’s lead is real
By most independent trackers, Hyperliquid holds a substantial lead in daily perps volume and open interest over edgeX. edgeX’s book is real and liquid, but it isn’t operating at the same scale.
Architecture and access: purpose-built L1 versus a 70+ chain on-ramp
Hyperliquid’s dedicated L1 means every trade settles on infrastructure purpose-built for order-book perps, with the trust model resting on a relatively young validator set. edgeX’s off-chain matching targets CEX-like speed with on-chain settlement, and its headline advantage is deposit flexibility — 70+ supported chains means funding an account from almost anywhere is low-friction, versus Hyperliquid’s more limited on-ramp.
Fees and leverage
Base fees are close on both sides (Hyperliquid 0.015%/0.045%, edgeX 0.015%/0.038%), with edgeX’s taker fee slightly cheaper. edgeX’s leverage ceiling (up to 100x) is roughly double Hyperliquid’s (~40-50x) — a real difference for anyone specifically sizing high-leverage positions, though neither ceiling should be read as a recommendation.
Which one to actually use
- Choose Hyperliquid if you want the deepest, most proven book by volume and are comfortable with a dedicated-L1 trust model.
- Choose edgeX if you’re funding from a chain Hyperliquid doesn’t support well, or specifically want a higher leverage ceiling.
- Neither is a farming play right now. Both tokens are live — if pre-token timing matters to you, look at our pre-TGE farming roundup instead.
