Solana LST Lending: Collateral, LTV, and Depeg Risk

A practical guide to using Solana liquid staking tokens as lending collateral, with LTV, liquidation, oracle, liquidity, and BulkSOL checks.

Quick answer

Using a Solana liquid staking token as collateral can make SOL productive while you borrow against it, but it also creates a second failure path. The token can lose value against SOL, the lending market can liquidate your position, and the LST's exit liquidity may be weakest during the same market stress. This is editorial context, not a current quote. Verify changing product facts with the protocol before acting.

Key takeaways

  • An LST can keep earning staking rewards while it backs a loan, but a depeg can reduce collateral value and trigger liquidation.
  • Compare the exact LST and lending market, not just the protocol brand: collateral factor, liquidation threshold, oracle, liquidity, and withdrawal rules can differ by market.
  • Borrowing against an LST is a leverage strategy. It is not the same as holding the LST or supplying it for lending yield.
  • BulkSOL is an emerging Solana LST, but its public staking, redemption, fee, and collateral terms need direct verification before it is used as collateral.

Using a Solana liquid staking token as collateral can make SOL productive while you borrow against it, but it also creates a second failure path. The token can lose value against SOL, the lending market can liquidate your position, and the LST’s exit liquidity may be weakest during the same market stress.

This page answers a narrower question than our complete Solana liquid-staking guide: not whether an LST is useful, but whether using one to borrow is worth the added leverage.

The decision in one minute

Use an LST as collateral only when all of these are clear:

  1. The exact LST is officially supported by the lending market.
  2. You know the collateral factor and liquidation threshold.
  3. The oracle tracks the LST and SOL relationship during stress.
  4. The market has enough liquidity for liquidators to close positions.
  5. You can repay without selling the LST into a weak market.

If any answer is unknown, holding the LST without borrowing is the lower-complexity choice.

What changes when an LST backs a loan?

An LST is a transferable token that represents a staked SOL position. Its value normally accrues against SOL as staking rewards are added to the underlying pool. That does not make it a stablecoin or guarantee a one-for-one market price.

When you supply an LST as collateral, the lending protocol values that token through an oracle and applies a collateral factor. The collateral factor limits how much you can borrow. The liquidation threshold is the point at which the position can be closed because the collateral no longer provides enough safety.

The exact parameters belong to the market, not the protocol name. Kamino, Save, MarginFi, or another venue may treat the same LST differently.

The five fields to compare

FieldPlain-English meaningWhy it matters
Collateral factorMaximum borrowing power against the assetA higher value leaves less room for a price shock
Liquidation thresholdHealth level where liquidation can beginThis is the danger line, not your target borrowing level
OraclePrice feed used to value collateralA stale, thin, or delayed price can worsen liquidation risk
Close factor and penaltyHow much gets sold and what extra cost appliesA liquidation can cost more than the initial price move
Supply and borrow capsLimits on market sizeCaps can change access and exit conditions during stress

Compare these fields with the live market before depositing. Current numbers are volatile and are UNKNOWN here unless verified in the app or official market documentation.

Kamino’s risk documentation makes the key lending implication explicit: liquidation-LTV calibration must account for volatility in both collateral and debt assets. That is why an LST position needs a depeg buffer in addition to a normal SOL price buffer; the exact factor, threshold, oracle, and caps remain market-specific and must be checked at the time of deposit.

Why LST depeg risk matters twice

An LST can trade below its fair redemption value because of sell pressure, thin liquidity, delayed redemption, or concern about the issuing protocol. If the LST is collateral, that market discount reduces your borrowing health at the same time.

This is why a position can be liquidated even when the underlying SOL price has not fallen as much as expected. Read our LST depeg-risk guide and Solana lending liquidation guide before using leverage.

Which LST are you using?

The token model matters more than the ticker. These are the main categories to investigate:

LST or modelWhat to verify before lendingEvidence path
jitoSOLValidator selection, MEV-linked reward variability, redemption route, and the exact lending marketsJito liquid-staking docs
mSOLMarinade’s delegation, instant versus delayed exit, market liquidity, and collateral parametersMarinade mSOL docs
INF and other Sanctum-connected LSTsThe underlying issuer, pool composition, route liquidity, and whether the lending oracle supports the exact tokenSanctum Infinity docs and live LST directory
bSOL and other issuer-specific LSTsValidator policy, redemption mechanics, liquidity, and market supportVerify the issuer and lending market directly
BulkSOLStaking pool, redemption path, fees, collateral support, and smart-contract or upgrade termsBULK brand page; current collateral status UNKNOWN

Sanctum is especially important to understand correctly. It is not one universal LST issuer. Its Infinity product is a shared liquidity pool for many LSTs, while the official Explore directory lists 237 LSTs as of September 26, 2026. The token you hold and the route you use still determine part of your risk.

BulkSOL: an emerging LST that needs a separate evidence track

BULK’s official brand page identifies BulkSOL as a liquid staking token. That establishes the product identity, but the public BULK developer documentation reviewed on September 26, 2026 does not document a complete user-facing BulkSOL staking and lending specification.

Do not copy an APY, fee share, collateral factor, or redemption promise from a secondary article into a lending decision. Verify the BulkSOL mint, stake-pool state, redemption route, supported venues, and liquidation parameters in the live product and primary documentation first.

BulkSOL also creates a product-specific risk stack: Solana staking risk, LST market and redemption risk, BULK platform risk, and any additional lending or yield-market risk. See the Bulk Exchange review for the current distinction between BulkSOL activity and the Challenger Series trading ladder.

A safer operating checklist

  • Start with a position you can repay without selling the LST.
  • Borrow well below the liquidation threshold.
  • Stress the LST price against SOL, not only SOL against USD.
  • Check the oracle and the available exit route before each increase in debt.
  • Keep repayment liquidity outside the leveraged position.
  • Recheck caps, rates, and collateral parameters after protocol updates.
  • Do not loop an LST merely to increase points, AURA, or an unconfirmed reward.

Frequently asked

Sometimes. Support depends on the specific lending market and asset listing. Check the live market for the LST's collateral factor, liquidation threshold, oracle, liquidity, and supply or borrow caps before depositing.

The LST can fall against SOL during a depeg while your loan remains outstanding. That can push the account toward liquidation even if the underlying staking position later recovers.

UNKNOWN from the public primary sources reviewed on September 26, 2026. BULK identifies BulkSOL as its LST, but the public developer documentation reviewed does not establish current lending support, collateral parameters, or redemption terms. Verify the live market and official terms directly.
